The Kedron Sugar Makers Sugarhouse

The Taftsville Country Store is proud to carry locally made pure Vermont maple syrup from Kedron Sugar Makers and Birch Hill Farm, both located in South Woodstock, Vermont.  Kedron Sugar Makers is our primary supplier, and owner Chip Kendall taps about 6000 trees each spring, producing in an average harvest about 3000 gallons of Vermont maple syrup.  Birch Hill Farm is a much smaller producer, and provides us with certified organic Vermont maple syrup.
The 2005 harvest was very disappointing, almost 50% below average, as warm nights in late March and early April shortened the sugaring season, which usually lasts four to five weeks.  The quality, however, was exceptional; Chip says he produced only Fancy Grade and Grade A Medium syrup this year, but he has enough of the dark grades left over to get him through the year.  Because of the continued glut of maple syrup being produced north of us in Canada, bulk prices will probably stabilize somewhere between 5% and 10% above last year's prices, despite the bad harvest, and we expect prices in the store will reflect this increase come June.

Joanne, a longtime employee of the store and a native Vermonter (which means she must be an expert on maple syrup), has declared Chip’s maple syrup to be the best maple syrup made in Vermont.  The Proprietor, being a flatlander, reserves judgement, but does think it tastes wonderful.
