The Kedron Sugar Makers Sugarhouse

| The Taftsville Country Store is proud to carry locally made pure Vermont maple syrup from several sugar makers in Vermont. Kedron Sugar Makers is our primary, and local, supplier. Owner Chip Kendall taps about 6000 trees each spring, producing in an average harvest about 3000 gallons of Vermont maple syrup.

| The 2009 harvest was about average statewide, even with warm nights in late March and early April that shortened the sugaring season, which usually lasts four to five weeks. The quality, however, was exceptional; Chip says he produced a good balance of all four grades this year. Canada was hit hard by the uncooperative weather as well, and for the first time in recent memory the market will not be flooded with cheap, subsidized Canadian syrup. This means an increase in prices, which seem to have stabilized at about a 10 to 15 percent increase over last year's prices. |

| Joanne, a recently retired but longtime employee of the store and a native Vermonter (which means she must be an expert on maple syrup), has declared Chip’s maple syrup to be the best maple syrup made in Vermont. The Proprietor, being a flatlander, reserves judgement, but does think it tastes wonderful. |
